It is finally official, John Skelton has been named the Cardinals starting quarterback for their season opener. After battling with Kevin Kolb throughout the preseason coach Ken Whisenhunt finally made his decision to go with Skelton. Entering camp it was believed that Skelton would have to outshine Kevin Kolb for the starting job. Kolb was reportedly the more impressive quarterback during practices while both quarterbacks struggled during preseason games. However, Skelton won out and this now makes Kolb a very expensive backup. Skelton will have a tough test week one against the Seahawks strong secondary, but it will be fun to watch Skelton take some shots downfield to Fitzgerald. Maybe in week one Skelton and Fitzgerald will have an instant connection and they will both thrive. Or Skelton could stumble out of the gates and then Kolb will be given a chance to shine. Either way, this will be a situation to monitor throughout the season.
